BANGOR, Maine - Stephen Berenyi tallied two goals, and Phil Frost provided what proved to be the game-winner in the 40th minute leading Husson to a 3-2 win over Maine Maritime on the final day of the fourth annual Challenge Cup, sponsored by Adidas.
The Eagles improve to 4-3-2 all-time in the tournament and finish second to Castleton (Vt.) based on goal differential. The Mariners come in third, while Southern Maine, which lost to Castleton 2-0 in the first game Saturday, places fourth.
The Eagles are unbeaten in 16 of the last 18 matchups against the Mariners and are 1-1 against them in the Challenge Cup.
"Two wins this weekend was really good for us," Husson coach Jeff Gettler said. "We've gotten better every game. We're undefeated at home. We got fantastic performances from so many guys. I'm extremly encouraged about where the team is and where we have to go."
Bryan Soucy (2) gave Maine Maritime (1-5) a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, but Berenyi answered with back-to-back goals in nearly the same spot top shelf less than two minutes apart. His first goal came in the 33rd minute from 30 yards out, while his second on the night and this year came in the 35th minute with an assist from Rod Ghanayem.
Jonathan Reeks (2) tied the affair with a penalty kick in the 39th minute, but a successful Frost penalty kick a minute later put the Eagles ahead for good. The goal was Frost's third in 2015 and 46th of his career, tying him with Serge Henry for seventh all-time. He now has 108 points and passed Steve Plourde for ninth on the school's all-time list.
Frost and Berenyi each had three shots on goal.
Soucy had four shots in the loss.
The Eagles outshot the Mariners 19-17 and held an edge in corner kicks 3-1.
Goalkeeper Steven Paquette (1-1) made five saves in 90 minutes.
Marshall Spear (1-4) recorded six saves in 90 minutes.
Berenyi was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammates Josh Bellomo and Mike Curtis; Castleton's Jake Tietgens (MVP), Steve Koenemann, Solo Feleniki and Amir Pasic; Maine Maritime's Soucy, Matt Leblanc and Kyle Haslam; and Southern Maine's Jonathan Cross and Christopher Pepin.

Smith and Steward each topped the century mark on the ground last season against Castleton (Vt.), the last time Husson (1-1) had two 100-yard rushers in a game.
The Eagles 69 carries Saturday are second most in a game to the 73 against Norwich (Vt.) in 2008.
The Eagles defense smothered Alfred State (0-2) to the tune of just 41 yards of total offense, fewest allowed in a single game, including minus-nine net yards rushing, second fewest allowed in Husson history. The 14 tackles for loss by the Eagles are tied for second most in a game in school history. The Eagles allowed just 0.7 yards per play, breaking the previous record of just 1.8 allowed to SUNY Maritime (N.Y.) in 2014. The 11.0 passing efficiency by the Pioneers is the lowest ever allowed by the Eagles, breaking the previous mark of 13.5 in 2004 by Worcester Poly Tech (Mass.).
Husson's Kenny Sweet totaled three interceptions, tying the school's single-game record set by Adam Scott and Chad Bennett (twice), all done in 2004. He also had four pass breakups. Sweet's 100 yards on interception returns is second most in a game next to Scott. His 225 career return yards are now most in school history, breaking Scott's previous mark of 210.
Husson forced four turnovers Saturday and has forced seven turnovers in the first two contests this year.
Husson racked up 411 yards of total offense.
The Eagles 79 punt return yards Saturday are the most ever for Husson in a single game.
After giving up a safety on a bad snap on a punt, Husson rattled off 44 unanswered points, starting with Smith's one-yard plunge into the endzone midway through the first quarter to cap a seven-play, 55-yard drive.
Deon Wiggins returned a punt 55 yards for a score nearly two minutes later to make the score 14-3.
Smith's second rushing touchdown on the day, this time from six yards out, came 29 seconds into the second quarter to finish off an 11-play, 92-yard drive. His third score came from three yards out to cap a 14-play, 75-yard march. Alfred fell on its own fumble in the endzone with just under five minutes remaining before halftime, giving the Eagles another two points and a 30-2 edge.
The Pioneers best offensive scoring chance came with under two minutes left in the second quarter when the home team drove to the Husson 20, but Sweet intercepted a Jason McMahon pass and returned it 83 yards to the Alfred 17, preserving the four-touchdown, halftime upper hand.
After a scoreless third quarter, Steward's touchdown burst came on the second play from scrimmage in the fourth, as he accounted for all 58 yards and two plays of the series.
The Eagles final scoring drive was set up when Joe Farrell blocked a Zack Goodwin punt, which was recovered at the Alfred State 12. Two plays later, Stephen Day crossed the goal line from three yards out with 5:17 left in the game.
Husson attempted just 11 passes in the contest. Kadeem Edge caught one pass for 35 yards in the win.

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - Springfield (Mass.) defeated Husson 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field. The Eagles fall to 0-2 all-time against the Pride, with both matches coming away from Winkin Sports Complex.
Husson (1-4) controlled much of the play early on in the half, maintaining much of the possession in the Pride's defensive third.  However, Springfield (3-0) finally broke through for the game's first goal with 6:25 left in the half as Maggie Kennedy backhanded home a shot off an Amanda Nusbaum rebound to put the hosts ahead.
Kennedy's goal proved to be a spark for the Pride's attack, as just 1:34 later, Katie Gill found Kristina Krull along the left goaline extended. Krull made the most of her first appearance this season, cracking a shot off the far post that riccocheted into the back of the cage.
Gill added to the Pride's lead just 4:22 in the second half, buring a shot from five yards out off a defelected Nusbaum shot.
