Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand is excited to announce auditions for its new production of the exciting new play from Aaron Sorkin (the Emmy™-winning creator of The West Wing and the Oscar™-winning writer of The Social Network, A Few Good Men and Steve Jobs) The Farnsworth Invention, to be held Friday, April 1 from 6 pm- 8 pm and Sunday, April 3 from 1 pm- 3 pm. The production runs June 3 through June 5, 2016.

It's 1929. Two ambitious visionaries race against each other to invent a device called "television."
Separated by two thousand miles, each knows that if he stops working, even for a moment, the other will gain the edge. Who will unlock the key to the greatest innovation of the 20th century: the ruthless media mogul, or the self-taught Idaho farm boy? The answer comes to compelling life in The Farnsworth Invention, the new play from Aaron Sorkin. Firmly in the tradition of such Grand productions as its smash hits Monty Python’s Spamalot and Disney's Mary Poppins, The Farnsworth Invention invites local talent to perform in a great stage play. The returning production team includes Grand staff Robin Jones (Director), Kimberly Fitch (Production/Stage Manager), Garrett Harris (Videographer, Sound Tech,) and Peter Miller (Tech Design, Props). This live presentation of this Frank Capra-esque story gives local performers the opportunity to play such historic figures as David Sarnoff (the head of RCA) and, of course, Philo T. Farnsworth himself. However, this is one production in which there are no small parts; with approximately 20 actors needed and almost twice to three times as characters to be played, this fast-moving, fast-talking epic story has more than enough material for any actor to dig into!

Auditions will be held at The Grand on the Stanley Subaru stage. All those auditioning will be asked to do a cold reading from the script with other performers.

Sponsorship opportunities will be available for local businesses and organizations.
