Women's golf defeats Bowdoin, Husson over two days at Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates College women's golf team defeated Bowdoin for the second straight week, and Husson as well, at Saturday and Sunday's three-team tournament at Brunswick Golf Course.

Bates shot a four-player combined score of 366 on Saturday and 372 on Sunday for 738, beating Bowdoin (758) by 20 strokes. Husson's Kelsie Dessent carded the tournament's top score, but the Eagles placed third at 988.

Sophomore Kelly Wassarman (Middleton, Wis.) led the Bobcats on both days, firing an 83 on Saturday and following with an 89 Sunday. Senior captain Elizabeth LaVerghetta (Norton, Mass.) went 90-92-182. Junior Sarah Centanni (Hingham, Mass.) carded a 97-94-191 scoreline, and junior Emily Plotnikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) a 96-97-193.

Bates will compete next weekend, Sept. 26-27, at the Mount Holyoke Invitational at Orchards Golf Course in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
