Terriers Blank Raiders 6-0
NASHUA, New Hampshire – The Thomas College field hockey team defeated Rivier University 6-0 in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon. Abigail Dunn recorded two goals and two assists in the win.
The Terriers netted a trio of goals within five minutes of each other in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. The first Thomas goal came 23 minutes into the half when Sophany Srey assisted on a goal by Gabby Martell. Dunn scored two consecutive goals within the next five minutes to push the lead to 3-0. Emily Leighton recorded the assist on Dunn's second goal.
The Red and Black struck again early in the second half when Taylor Bergeron scored on an assist by Dunn. Dunn later assisted on a goal by Erica Blake with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Martell added her second goal in the final minute of the game on an assist by Allyson Clary.
The Raiders were unable to produce a shot on goal or corner opportunity in the contest. Brittany Fox started in net for the Terriers and earned the win. She was relieved in goal by Jessica Russell in the second half. Raiders' goalie Stevie Charest made 19 saves for Rivier in the loss.
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 when they host North Atlantic Conference rival Colby-Sawyer at 1:00 pm at Bernatchez Field.

Southern Maine Finishes Third at Husson University Invitational
BANGOR, Maine – Juniors Tom Murray (Bangor, Maine) and Shawn Francoeur (Windham, Maine) each finished tied for 10th place to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a third place finish at the 2015 Husson University Invitational this weekend at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course.
Southern Maine finished in a two-way tie for third place with the University of New England. The Huskies totaled a team score of 615 (310-305) to finish third out of 12 teams in the two-day, 36-hole tourney. St. Joseph's College won the event with a team score of 600 (299-301), while host Husson University placed second with a score of 601 (300-301). Husson's Greg Martin was the individual medalist placing first out of 60 golfers with a two-day score of 139 (67-72).
Murray and Francoeur each carded a 152 to place Southern Maine. Murray opened the tourney firing a 78 and coming back for a 74 on the second day. Francoeur shot a solid 75 on day one and turned in a 77 on day two. Junior Alex Carroll (Searsport, Maine) was the Huskies' third finisher with a score of 154 to place 15th overall. Junior Joseph Francoeur (Windham, Maine) placed 20th with a score of 157 (82-75), while freshman Shawn McKinnon (Rocky Hill, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with a two-day total of 172 (86-86) to place 48th.
Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday, October 1 (10:00 a.m.) at the Maine Maritime Academy Invitational hosted by the Augusta Country Club in Augusta, Maine.

LaVerghetta leads women's golf to 10th place at Mt. Holyoke Invitational

Bates' result is an improvement from last year, when the team placed 14th out of 15 teams. The Bobcats' four-player, two-day combined score of 748 edged 11th-place Wellesley (752) by four strokes, and trailed ninth-place Union (720) by 28. Williams won the tournament at 605.
LaVerghetta (Norton, Mass.) shot a 12-over-par 84 on Sunday, following up on her 89 on Saturday, to place 32nd among 83 players overall.
Junior Sarah Centanni (Hingham, Mass.) shot a 188 over two days to tie for 55th place, second for Bates. Sophomore Kelly Wassarman (Middleton, Wis.) tied for 57th place at 191, and junior Emily Plotnikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shot a 196 for 62nd place.
Bates next competes at the Middlebury Invitational, Oct. 3-4 at Ralph Myrhe Golf Course in Middlebury, Vt.

Maine Field Hockey's Emily Corbett and Casey Crowley Named America East Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week.
ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine Field Hockey team's Emily Corbett and Casey Crowley were named America East defensive player and rookie of the week today.
Emily Corbett (Listowel, Ontario) was named defensive player of the week after finishing with two wins and played a key role in net for the Black Bears in Sunday's 2-1 win over Northeastern. She had six saves all in the second half to preserve the win.
Casey Crowley (New Plymouth, New Zealand) was named rookie of the week by the America East conference. It's the third week in a row that a Black Bear has received this award. Crowley was able to net a hat-trick against Bryant and had a key assist versus Northeastern for a total of seven points on the week.

WHITINGHAM, VT - The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) has announced its weekly honors for women's soccer and Thomas'Cassie Contigiani has been named rookie of the week.
Contigiani recorded a goal and an assist in the Terriers 4-1 victory over Lyndon State in their North Atlantic Conference opener. She also had game high five shots on goal.
Thomas will hosted Saint Joseph's College on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Smith Field.

Nicholas Named NAC Player, Rookie of the Week
WHITINGHAM, VT - The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) has announced its weekly honors for men's soccer. Thomas'DJ Nicholas has been named the player of the week and rookie of the week.
Nicholas recorded four goals in two games this week for the Terriers. The first year scored the only goal on Tuesday in a 1-0 win over the University of New England. On Saturday, Nicholas scored the first three goals for a hat trick to lead Thomas past Lyndon State 6-0.

Williamson Named LEC Offensive Player of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly awards program Monday afternoon and University of Southern Maine sophomore outside hitter Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) was selected as the volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.
This is the first weekly honor this season for Williamson, the 2014 LEC Rookie of the Year and four-time Rookie of the Week selection.
In three matches (10 sets) last week, Williamson compiled 51 kills on a .408 hitting percentage and had 37 digs. She also contributed four service aces and five blocks.
In the Huskies' tri-match Saturday with Eastern Connecticut State University and Emmanuel College, Williamson racked up a double-double in both matches. In USM's first win over Eastern Connecticut since 2003 (and just the second in the history of the series), Williamson had 18 kills on a .412 hitting percentage (18-4-34) and 15 digs. Later in the afternoon, she had 19 kills on a .317 hitting percentage (19-6-41) and 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the season in the Huskies' come-from-behind win against Emmanuel.
On the season, Williamson is averaging 4.19 kills per set (176/42) on a .253 attack percentage. She leads the team with 167 digs (3.98 digs per set), and has 20 aces and 13 total blocks.

Gazzelloni, Hussein Receive LEC Weekly Honors

Gazzelloni was named the Runner of the Week while Hussein was picked as the Rookie of the Week. This is the first weekly citation this season for each athlete.
Competing at the Bowdoin College Invitational on Saturday, the two helped the Huskies finish third among the 10 teams competing. Gazzelloni was the Huskies first runner to complete the 8,000-meter course, crossing the finish line in ninth place with a time of 26 minutes, 43.3 seconds. Hussein was four positions further back in 13th place with his time of 26:52.7.
Colby College won the meet with 24 points on the strength of a 2-3-4-5-10 finish. Host Bowdoin, led by individual winner Bridger Tomlin (26:02.4), was runner-up with 37 points. Both teams were ranked in the top 10 in last week's USTFCCCA regional poll. USM was third with 59 points. Colby, Bowdoin and USM combined to take the first 17 places. Endicott College was fourth with 135 points.
Southern Maine will be off this weekend. The Huskies next race will be on October 10 when they compete in the NEICAAA New England Championship at Franklin Park in Boston.

Butkevich, Rich listed in CCC weekly honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- University of New England men's golf members Paul Butkevich and Mike Rich have been named as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Golfer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for the period ending September 27.
Butkevich paced the Nor'easters over the weekend at the Husson Invitational, as UNE finished tied for third in the 11-team field. The senior logged rounds of 71 and 75 for an eight-over-par total of 146 and 3rd place individually.
Rich totaled 162 with a pair of 81's and contributed to Big Blue's day one score.
For Butkevich, it marks the second conference award of the season.
