NEW YORK DANCE COMPANY OPENS THE DANCE HALL'S FALL SEASON

Kittery, Maine - On Friday, September 20, 2013 at 7:30pm The Dance Hall will feature the NYC contemporary dance company 49th Parallel as the first event of its fall season, an eclectic array of unique programming including dance, music, spoken word and more.

49th Parallel Dance Company directors/choreographers Ariana Champlin and Carolyn Schmidt fuse together the best of contemporary dance, theatre, and indie rock music to create an exhilarating journey through a chaotic night at a local pub. Set to an original musical score by Brooklyn based rock band BLACK TAXI, Watering Hole unfolds the stories of 9 individuals through a night of debauchery.

49th Parallel Dance Company was founded in 2010 by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre graduates Ariana Champlin (New York City) and Carolyn Schmidt (Vancouver). The company operates out of Canada and the USA and is committed to connecting dance communities across North America through the creation and production of quality dance works. The cast of Watering Hole consists of 9 talented dancers with diverse training backgrounds from across the US and Canada. The soundtrack for Watering Hole is a compilation of original tracks by Brooklyn-based band BLACK TAXI who has been referred to as “one of New York Cityʼs most prominent "live acts”. Watering Hole has been performed in Calgary, AB, New York City and Vancouver, BC and has received rave reviews and feedback from audience and press alike. This is 49th Parallelʼs first time performing in Maine.

Other upcoming Dance Hall events include: 4th Friday Forum on Friday, 9/27 a new monthly series featuring local artists and guests focussing on creative exploration, experimentation and improvisation; West African Dance & Drum workshops and performance with Jeh Kulu on Saturday, 10/5; Desert Island Live! Saturday, 10/19 performing Joni Mitchell's "Blue" and "Court & Spark"; the first Vintage & Vinyl Listening Club on Saturday, 11/16 featuring David Bowie's "Heroes"; and Ring in the Rhythm, Saturday and Sunday, 12/14-15 featuring the Paul Arslanian Sextet and special guests performing the original music from Clara's Dream A Jazz Nutcracker.
