Rockland Public Library: Open House on February 12

Rockland, Maine - The Rockland Public Library is hosting an Open House on Friday, February 12 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.  There’ll be something for everyone, including fun, food, music, and a warm sense of community.

There will be crafts, building with LEGOs, and a special storytime in the Children’s Room.  Adults are invited to re-energize with coloring & doodling in a quiet space. Jazz guitarist Bill Barnes and bassist Spike Hyssong will provide live jazz music throughout the evening, adding to the festive occasion.  Roving juggler Steve Athearn will wow and amaze with his talent! The Library will also be showcasing some of its many resources. The Friends’ used bookstore, the BookStop, will be open, and there will be plenty of opportunity for casual conversation with staff members, and members of the Friends of Rockland Public Library, the Library Advisory Committee, and the Rockland Public Library Endowment Association.

Enjoy food prepared by Library staff and support group members, including chili, soup, meatballs,
and more.  For dessert, sample a variety of cookies and cupcakes.

Thanks to the generosity of the Friends, attendees will have a chance at door prizes including an iPad Air, and gas and grocery gift cards.  While one must have a current and fine-free Rockland Public Library card to be entered for a prize, don’t forget that cards are free for Rockland residents and taxpayers. RSU #13 Students may purchase a card for $10.00 and there is $20.00 fee for a non-RSU #13 Knox County student card.  Others may purchase a card for $45.00 a year or $25 for a three month card.

Library staff and members of the support groups—the Library Advisory Committee, Friends, and Rockland Public Endowment Association join together to create this annual event.

“We welcome this chance to celebrate our regular Library visitors; however, we also hope to bring back many who haven’t been here in a long while,” according to Library Director, Amy Levine; “we are looking at this Open House as our Valentine to the Community—the theme for the event, and our enduring wish—love your Library; your Library loves you.”
