
Owls Head Transportation Museum Winter Education Series
Owls Head, Maine - On Saturday, April 20, Maine State Historian Earle Shettleworth will present the seventh, and concluding, segment in the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s Winter Education Series. The illustrated talk, “Roadside Maine: A Nostalgic Journey up Route 1” will focus on the history of Route 1, and the formative impact of Route 1 on Maine’s early tourism industry.
Shettleworth’s presentation will be focused on postcard views of architecture alongside Route 1 in Maine from the 1900s to the 1960s. He will discuss the impact of automobile travel on Route 1 and the development of the tourism industry in the communities that the historic road passes through.
