Bates junior Claire Markonic scored the game's initial goal in the second minute and added an assist for the host Bobcats (2-2).
Bates outshot Thomas by a 20-1 margin, including 13-0 in the first half, and the Terriers were unable to get a shot on goal. Abbie Charrier made eight saves for Thomas (3-5), while Bates senior Katie Knox (Bronxville, N.Y.) got the shutout.
On the first penalty corner of the game, Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) finished off a pass from sophomore Samantha Reiss (New Haven, Vt.) that was poked by a Thomas defender but still found Markonic, who knocked in her second goal of the season.
Bates made it 2-0 in the ninth minute, connecting on four passes on another penalty corner before sophomore Caroline O'Reilly's (Longmeadow, Mass.) dish to Lough (Little Compton, R.I.) resulted in her first goal, scored from close range.
Bates controlled play throughout but didn't score again until five minutes remained, and Lough found the back of the cage on an assist by sophomore Caroline Gettens (Concord, N.H.). She struck once more in the 67th minute from Markonic.
Bates plays back-to-back NESCAC games this weekend, at Wesleyan on Saturday at noon and at Williams Sunday at 11am.
