Weiske Wins Super Tiebreaker to Earn Huskies Point

BOSTON -- Junior Kara Weiske (Nobleboro, Maine/Lincoln Academy) won a super tiebreaker to earn the lone point for the University of Southern Maine Huskies in an 8-1 loss to the University of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East Conference match Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the third in the last four matches for the Beacons who improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.  The Huskies dropped their second straight conference match to slip to 2-5 overall.  The Huskies are winless in four conference matches.

Weiske rallied from a one-set deficit against UMB junior Vicky Woytowicz (Springfield, Mass./SABIS International Center) in the fourth singles flight.  After dropping the opening set 6-2, Weiske won the second set 7-5 to force a 10-point super tiebreaker for the point.  Weiske prevailed in the tiebreaker 10-7 to earn the point for the Huskies.

The Beacons got the jump on the Huskies taking all three doubles points, then won five of the six singles matches to earn their first win over the Huskies since 2009.

Southern Maine returns to the courts this Saturday (1:00 p.m.) hosting Western Connecticut State University for an LEC match.  UMass Boston hosts Rhode Island College for an LEC match on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
