The game remained scoreless for the first 60 minutes, including a missed penalty kick by Pereira in the 55th minute. Five minutes later, a free kick was awarded to Pereira (Curitiba, Brazil) after a Thomas foul. Pereira's shot was deflected by Thomas goalkeeper Joakim Sternas, but Bates sophomore David Murphy (Yarmouth, Maine) was in position to clean up the rebound and tap it in for a 1-0 Bates lead.
The Terriers (2-3-0) evened the game in spectacular fashion, as Willie Clemons took a pass from Tre Ming and unleashed a bicycle kick past Bates senior goalie Sam Polito (Far Hills, N.J.) in the 67th minute.
Nearly three minutes into overtime, sophomore David Dick (Ipswich, Mass.) sent a cross to Pereira, who received the pass cleanly and knocked the ball into the upper right corner of the net, ending the game at 2-1 in Bates' favor.
The red-hot Pereira has scored in all four Bates games this season. In three games this week he totaled four goals and four assists.
Bates had a 23-18 advantage in shot attempts, 14-12 in shots on goal. Polito made a season-high 11 saves for the Bobcats, while Sternas totaled 12 saves for the Terriers.
Bates will put its undefeated record on the line against Bowdoin on Wednesday at 8pm in a NESCAC contest.
