Thursday, March 20th at the Union Masonic Lodge
Union, Maine - Don Kleiner, the current executive director of the Maine Professional Guides Association and Master Maine Guide has spent 30 years delighting clients with Maine outdoor memories. He will be the featured speaker at the Union Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on March 20th at the Union Masonic Lodge on Senebec Road. As the owner of Maine Outdoors, Don offers guided fishing and nature trips in the midcoast. Each fall he guides upland bird hunters out of Libby Camps located about 35 miles north of Baxter Park in the North Maine Woods. He is also an Orvis endorsed fly fishing guide who enjoys guiding on fresh and saltwater. His presentation at the annual dinner will offer entertaining and enlightening stories from some of his many guiding trips and he will also speak about his responsibilities representing the Maine Professional Guides Association testifying before the legislature on items as diverse as mining, wind power, and fish and wildlife activities including the ramifications of the upcoming bear hunting referendum.
Besides working with many conservation and education organizations, Don has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Maine Tourism Association and is currently their Treasurer. He has received numerous awards including 2007 Excellence in Tourism award for a recreation supplier presented by Governor Baldacci, and twice has been selected to receive Outstanding Service Award from the Maine Professional Guides Association. He is also a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and has spent a lifetime learning outdoors.
The Dinner & Awards ceremony sponsored by Tidewater Telecom will begin with a social hour from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. Dinner will be a choice of meat or meatless lasagna served with garden salad accompanied by a delicious dessert. Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery and Savage Oaks Vineyard & Winery will be offering samples of their wines. The event is open to the public. The cost per person is $25 per person. Reservations are required and are non-cancellable. To reserve and pay in advance, mail checks made out to : UACOC and mail to PO Box 603, Union, ME 04862. Reservations must be made no later than March 17th.
Awards will be presented for Business of the year, Volunteer of the year and Non-Profit of the year. There will also be a raffle and a silent auction. Silent auction donations can be arranged prior to the event by contacting John Fromer at 975-6995.
